Our most successful customers start with downtime labeling. It’s the easiest way to get an idea for how much time is being lost to certain activities—and it could help justify improvements you otherwise thought you couldn’t afford.
Set up Operator Interfaces on the floor (computers or tablets)
Make sure 8-digit codes are accessible for logins
Set goals for downtime labeling (ex. 10% or less of downtime should be unlabeled)
Conduct a formal training and kickoff Downtime Labeling with Operators
You may use the Operator Interface Training PDF in the Learn the Operator Interface guide
Create an Audit Plan
Example:
- Daily audits by supervisors at start of the day: correct unlabeled downtime from the day before on the spot
- The Project Owner reports out each week to the Champion - the Executive Summary has a great report for Unlabeled Downtime
- The Champion clears blockers
- Read: How to Label Machine Downtime and Create Accountability
Once labeling is happening consistently, schedule a data review meeting with your CSM
